Let’s resolve to stop assuming the worst of each other in 2016. Will McCants is talking about Muslims and others, but that’s a good admonition for all sorts of relationships.

More about the backchannel talks that led to the Iran nuclear deal. This sort of diplomacy is necessary for working toward peace. Would be nice to see that all the presidential candidates understood that.

Iran has shipped most of its enriched uranium to Russia. Iran seems to be fulfilling the requirements to have sanctions lifted. The IAEA will inspect and verify whether the requirements have been met.

In Ukraine, we need to take positive steps, beyond condemning Russia. More of that diplomacy stuff.

Seymour Hersh has another poorly-sourced article, this time claiming that the US Joint Chiefs of Staff collaborated with Syria and Russia to help out Bashar al-Assad. I’m not going to link to it. In the course of Hersh’s imaginings, he claims that Turkey has been sending Uighur fighters, from western China, into the Syrian war. Here are the facts, from The Kebab and Camel and Sinoturcica.

In contrast, Walter Pincus wraps up part of his career at the Washington Post. Imagine if a politician, including the President, said the things that are in this article. I don’t think it would go well.

Sweden’s role in international relations is more complicated than you might think.

US missile defense has always been a boondoggle.
