My op-ed in Physics Today on the use of fear in discussions of nuclear terrorism. It appears that a number of other people are seeing that hyping the fear factor isn’t the best way to discuss these issues: Elisabeth Eaves in the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, Al Mauroni in War on the Rocks, and a group educating journalists on nuclear matters. Also some good sense on how to protect nuclear plants from terrorists. Photo from the Physics Today article.

Photos and video of┬áRussian fighter jets buzzing of an American Navy destroyer. Why the Navy didn’t shoot them down: “You don’t get to kill people just because they’re being annoying.” The ship is part of the US missile defense system, which may or may not have anything to do with the Russian decision to buzz it.

China is not pleased with recent North Korean missile and nuclear tests.

If we could kill people for being annoying, wouldn’t it be a better world? Maybe not, I guess, as I am on several people’s lists should it be legalized.
